Louis Theroux went to the manosphere. MAFS went there every Sunday night for free.
So Louis Theroux made a documentary about the manosphere. Men online being aggressively weird about women. Feeling victimised by basic equality. Deciding that the real problem with the modern world is that women have opinions and the audacity to share them.
Honestly? We’ve been watching this for years. It’s just that on MAFS, they give the men microphones, a wedding suit, and a Sunday night primetime slot.
“The manosphere didn’t invent any of this. Reality TV just repackaged it with a commitment ceremony and a commitment to never actually committing.”
Every season, without fail, there’s a groom who thinks his wife should be grateful just to be there. A guy who mistakes control for protection. Someone who uses the word “disrespect” to mean “she had a different opinion and disagreed with me in public.” The experts look concerned. The producers look delighted. We keep watching.
But let’s be honest - and that is literally what we’re here for - the women aren’t always covering themselves in glory either. The ones who arrive thinking it's a personal brand launch. The wannabe influencers who packed a ring light and a content strategy instead of any actual intention of getting married. The ones performing “wife material” for the camera while doing absolutely nothing to make it work off screen.
Honestly? Are they genuinely wondering why they’re still single? Do they actually think showing up as a trophy is a personality? Because babe ... it’s not. And the audience clocked it approximately four episodes in.
“Louis needed a film crew and a BBC commission to find this content. MAFS just needed a casting form and some wannabe influencers willing to embarrass themselves on national television.”
The difference, maybe, is that Louis asks questions. He sits with people, pushes gently, and tries to understand how someone ends up there. MAFS just rolls the cameras, stirs the drama, and calls it a social experiment. Both leave you staring at the ceiling at 11pm questioning humanity. One of them at least admits what it is.
Honestly though - that’s just one take. Come for us in the comments.
